In the golden autumn of October, the green field is particularly energetic in the brilliant sunshine. On October 23, the 2020 freshmen of the Department of Linguistics participated in the Beijing Language and Culture University Sunshine Cup freshman sports meeting as scheduled, showing a positive athletic spirit and freshman attitude on the sports field. Professor Zhongru Xiong, the deputy dean of our department, was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the sports meeting to cheer for the students.

In the group project, the team spirit of the 20th undergraduate freshmen is fully demonstrated. Before the skipping rope competition, the 20th grade undergraduate freshmen, after finishing a busy day of classes, still insisted on stepping up their practice and coordination in the evening, constantly polishing the arrangement of the team sequence, the length of the rope and the speed. After unremitting efforts, they finally achieved a qualitative leap from 45 times a minute in the first practice to 85 times in the official competition without interruption, winning the second place of the 10-people skipping rope competition.

In spite of the small number of students, the 20th grade undergraduate freshmen still struggled hard and did their best to get the best results. When the personal honor and the collective honor clash, Da Zhang resolutely gave up his 400-meter personal project and chose the collective project to jump rope, which fully demonstrated the team spirit.

There is a sentence in "Decameron": "The hardship of climbing leads to double happiness." The satisfactory results achieved in this sports meeting are thanks to the careful organization the the department, the students’ cooperation with each other, and the hard working of the athletes, which demonstrated the solidarity and cooperation of the whole department.
