On the afternoon of December 25th,2019, Ping Chen,ChairProfessor of Department ofLanguage andCulture, University ofQueensland, Australia,visitedthe lecture series on theoreticallinguistics of the Department of Linguistics of BLCU. The title of this lecture,TheLaggingofTheoreticalLinguistics vs theBroadProspect ofApplied/TransdisciplinarityResearch,has attracted many teachers and students from both inside and outside the university.

ProfessorPing Chendistinguished the concepts of theoretical linguistics, accurately commented on the relationship betweengenerativegrammar,functionalgrammar and cognitive grammar.Hehighly appraised the historical significance of the Chomsky Revolution,andanalyzedthe trend oftheeducationsituation onAmerican linguisticmajor.The suggestions which he offeredfor theconstruction of the Department of Linguistics was also rich and profound.
