At 9:00 am on September 18, 2021, Professor Fevzi Okumus from the University of Central Florida was invited to give an online report entitled "How to Become a Good Researcher" for the new graduate students of CCSL. The report was presided over by Professor Chen Xianglan, all the fresh students participated this online event.

Professor Fevzi Okumus is the editor-in-chief of SSCI journals International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management and Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Insights. First of all, Professor Okumus asked the students a question "What do you think a good scholar should have?" Everyone answered positively, and the professor gave a wide range of explanations around this question. Professor Okumus put forward the iceberg model, that is, success is hard-won, and the elements of success in scientific research include good habits, innovation, determination, enthusiasm for scientific research, and honesty. To be successful, you first need hard work, persistence, self-discipline, learn to reject, have courage, critical thinking, and then have the courage to take risks. The life cycle of research includes research design, research setting, research start, research end, and research results. Then the professor explained how to become an excellent researcher from a more subtle perspective, that is, you need to be passionate about scientific research, have ambitious goals, etc., and face the challenges and risks brought by scientific research. To do a good job in scientific research, not only the researchers' own efforts, such as critical thinking and professionalism, but also external support, such as family support and institutional funding support. The professor also put forward the thinking modes that excellent researchers should possess, such as expanding the boundaries of science, thinking cannot be limited, and making good use of interdisciplinary research methods. Finally, Professor Okumus proposed that students should read and write every week, watch and listen to academic lectures, participate in academic conferences, etc., to develop good research habits.
